Let's Build a Computer

Hi!

I'm John. I'm a software engineer website programmer PHP copy/paster and not an electrical engineer.

I have no idea what I'm doing.

But the goal of the project is to:

1. learn how computers work
2. build a computer system
3. have fun!

By the end I plan to have a set of blocks that I can assemble in various ways to build any (8 bit) architecture that I want. Maybe even 16 bit‽

These blocks should:

• be possible on breadboards
• have a maximum PCB size of 100mm x 100mm
• use "simple" logic ICs — 7400 series
• not use PALs, GALs, or UV-EPROMS
• only use complex ICs to simplify learning — memory, MCUs, storage, IO
